Go Sister, Soul Sister

You know that book they turned into a movie with the amazing America Ferrera?  The one with the group of girls who shared the magical pair of pants?  That would be really cool if that happened in real life, right?  A bond of friendship so strong it magically transforms your life and the size of those jeans.

Well, the magic of the interweb has gifted me with the blogging bond of Sherri Matthew‘s friendship and support.  And as if that were not enough, she’s nominated me for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.  Sadly, it does not come with a pair of magical blue jeans, but there are other perks.

Will these take me to Greece?

~ ~ The Nominees ~ ~

There are quite a few blogs I love reading.   The ladies behind the ones I’ve listed below write pieces that make me feel as if they knew what I needed at that moment; that make me feel like I’m not the only one who’s having this, that, or another horrible feeling; that bring hope from isolation.  And quite frequently make me laugh my pants off. Through their reading and comments, they make me feel that my own words are not in vain.  So for those sisters I never knew I had and may have never even met, this one’s for you.

Kathy at Chasing Clever

Marlyn at Kintal

Charlotte at momaste

Miss Fanny P at The Adventures of Fanny P

Ruby Tuesday at I Was Just Thinking

Rachel at The Red Tent

Casi at Mama Cravings

Off Duty Mom

Natalie at Happy Cat 13

Megan at The War in My Brain

I invoke the song in the title because it’s got a funky beat you can dance to, but in no way am endorsing Lady Marmalade’s career choices 😉

Doubly Lieb

I feel as bubbly as a schoolgirl.

So much excitement and blog love.

The positive and honest woman behind Surprise Mama has nominated me for The Liebster Award, my second!  My goodness, one was an honor, but two!  How much can a modest woman take?  I’m not going to turn any of it down, mind you.

I am going to pass on the whole 11-11-11 bit of the Liebster and opt for a modified version of the rules as it’s my second time around.

First, a shout-out to Surprise Mama.  Motherhood catches us all by surprise, I think, but she is candid about how her life has been transformed by unexpected motherhood.  She has a great photograph of all the toes in her family as the header of her blog (are those really yours?).  And she still believes in handwritten thank-you notes – a girl after my own heart!  Thank you, thank you, thank you for thinking of my little ol’ blog as one of your nominees.

Surprise Mama posed eleven questions for me to answer, which I will now attempt to do.

  1. What is your favorite book that was made into a movie (and was the movie any good?)  Hmmm . . . that’s tough one.  The movies usually pale in comparison to the books and some of my favorite books have never been cinematized (is that a word?) – which may be a good thing.  But Fahrenheit 451 has been bopping around in my head lately.  I love that movie in a strangely stark sixties sort of way.
  2. Vanilla or Chocolate?  Oh, most definitely chocolate.
  3. What is your proudest moment?  When I catch one of my daughters being kind / taking care of one another.
  4. What is the best job or volunteer position you have ever held?  Running my campus’ chapter of Habitat for Humanity
  5. Sneakers or stilettos?  Sneakers.
  6. If you were to teach a class, what would it be called?  Journalling as a coping tool
  7. If you were to take a class, what would it be called?  Knitting 101
  8. What is the best gift you have ever received?  My husband’s love
  9. What is your favorite blog (besides your own)?  I’ve been stalking The Red Tent lately.
  10. If you could travel around the world, what five destinations would you be sure not to miss?    the stone house my great-grandfather grew up in in Ireland; the back alleys (or would that be allée, ha!) of Paris; Provence; Italy once again; my friend’s kitchen in New Brunswick for a cup of tea.
  11. What scares you?  Loss of control (I know, I’m working on that).

Go to Surprise Mama’s Liebster post and visit all her fine nominees.  Or go to her site eleven different times and send her view-counter off the charts!

Thank you for double the Lieb love, Surprise Mama!

A fabulous lady who stepped out of the blogosphere and onto my stats page nominated me for The Versatile Blogger Award.  Tiny steps, big journey first found me sometime in February, then we bonded over Star Wars and a predisposition to dressing our kids in Star Wars garb!  No matter what our parenting experience, it’s the commonalities that draw us together, isn’t it?

So I looked up the definition of versatile for a deeper understanding of it.  Visuwords, one of my favorite language sites, says versatile is varied, which I knew, but also skilled and mobile.  I’d like to think I’m not only a versatile blogger, then, but parent as well; skilled in handling the various crises that come my way, such as shuddering and moving to another room when my seven year-old daughter sings “I’m Sexy and I Know It”.

If you find yourself nominated, you’ve been awarded The Versatile Blogger award.  And then, you need to pay it forward:

  • Thank the person who gave you this award
  •  Include a link to their blog
  •  Select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly
  •  Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — you might include a link to this site.
  •  Tell the person who nominated you seven things about yourself

Seven things about me:

  1. I love the combination of chocolate and peanut butter.
  2. I was slightly obsessed with anything Jack Kerouac for the better part of ten years.
  3. I am neither a morning person nor a night owl; I thrive between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM.
  4. I was born tired (which may explain # 3).
  5. I am an only child raising three children (at times, bizarre!)
  6. I love to sing.
  7. I love to compete with my husband as to who can first name the title and artist of a song within the first few beats.

And the nominees are . . .

1. The Fulcrum Chronicles

2.  Burgeoning School Psychologist

3.  Mermaids Love Sushi

4.  grrlscene

5.  My Cracked Pot

6.  The Cupcake Mummy

7.  Track My Kin

8.  The Home Tome

9.  misslisted

10.  A Calibama State of Mind

11.  Sassy Sass

12.  Unexpectant

13.  Momma Swears

14.  Off-Duty Mom

15.  For His Love . . .

These fifteen fabulous blogs are not ranked in any way, shape, or form.  I’ve found something that speaks to me in all of them, as I hope you have in mine.  Thank you!

I’m Versatile and (Now) I Know It
