I first noticed these art deco mailboxes in a little country post office several months ago. I, like so many other times before, wished I had my camera with me. I vowed to return and take pictures if I could do so without looking like a nut job. Don’t know if I succeeded in the latter (I jumped when I realized the clerk watching me from the window), but I got the pics.

/ September 9, 2013Those look a lot like the mailboxes in the MTSU student union.

/ September 9, 2013I wonder when they were installed. The motif looks like a Greek Revival style. That could be anywhere from the mid 1800’s – 1940’s. A mystery to solve…… What fun!

/ September 11, 2013Yes, I did notice the ‘Greek key’. Thought the sunburst looked art deco. Looks like I have some research to do! I just thought they were so neat.

/ September 22, 2013I had a chance to bid on similar mailboxes a few years ago on an auction. They were from a traveling postoffice. Auction was not attended well and I could have had them for an apple and an egg. BUT my husband didn’t feel like braking his back to load them on a truck we would have had to rent. They would have looked too cool in my craft room and i would have plenty of uses for them.

/ September 24, 2013I have NO problem to fill them up: Embroidery floss is one row, gadgets like various scissors, needle threader, seam rippers….. another row,
Buttons get organized by color or size…..
magnets of different sized and shapes, screws, picture hangers…… endless little junk like rubber bands, paper clips, stamps…..
Don’t tell anybody this ( hihihi), but since I did not get the traveling postoffice, I have all my “stuff” in those plastic wet towel sanitary toilet-paper boxes from Scott. My husband ( American) is always really “perturbed” how I recycle like that. I even suggested to freeze blueberries in those- seal it off with plastic wrap. But he says how “disgusting” that is. What does the plastic box care what it was designed for? I am oblivious and practical. I guess that comes with having a childhood in the refugee camp.hihihi I can use ANYTHING to make something. Be blessed
